White Sea - the source of health

White Sea - the source of health

Why does seaweed thrive in the cold waters near the Solovki islands?

According to most scientific theories, life, namely, the first cells, originated in seawater. Seawater today is a habitat for many different plants, fish, and animals. And it is no secret that the ocean can not only be called the source of life, but also the source of health. Not only water itself is the source of life, but also the plants living in it. That is why people have loved and appreciated seaweed ever since ancient times.

Seaweed are plants inhabiting the sea that contain chlorophyll and carry out the process of photosynthesis by releasing oxygen. It is interesting that oxygen is released by seaweed in such high numbers that it is safe to say that humans breathe and live on this planet because of seaweed.

The species diversity of seaweed and the increase in their organic mass is firstly formed by the factors of the environment they grow in.

What influences the quality of this medicinal species? Several factors affect it: light, temperature, and salinity. What is also intriguing is that the northern seas are the home for most of the types of brown seaweed – the kings of iodine content, as well as other biologically active substances. In total, more than 30 species of laminaria grow in the world ocean. 25 of these species grow in the waters of the Northern hemisphere.

Probably, it is worth exploring why exactly our northern seaweed is so good and beneficial. The reason is that the White Sea seaweed cells, existing in their own diverse climatic and biological conditions affected by the tides, have optimal conditions for aeration and photosynthesis. In the unusual seasonal lighting environment of the Northern region, seaweed acquires high adaptation capabilities and accumulate unique medicinal powers. A greater number of natural adaptogens is accumulated in the cells of northern marine plants.

The term "plant adaptogens" was introduced in the 1950s by the famous Leningrad pharmacologist – Nikolay Lazarev. Plant adaptogens are substances that help the human body overcome harmful factors of various origins. They are particularly important for a human living in the modern world. Marine adaptogens help the body to cope with stressful situations: viruses, bacteria, bad ecology, changes in air temperature, shifting climatic zones, etc. They have a restorative effect, in which the body's endurance and stress resistance increase, as cell regeneration strengthens.

The harsher the climatic conditions are, the higher the concentration of adaptogens in a plant cell is. Therefore, the seaweed of the White Sea, which enters the Arctic Ocean and has sufficiently severe hydrological characteristics, are the richest in these substances. The content of biologically active substances is considerably higher in the seaweed cells of the Arctic seas too. In their chemical composition, brown seaweed is considered to be a "forge" of useful substances.

The seaweed rich in adaptogens strengthens human body, helps cope with stress, and resists illnesses.

The White Sea occupies a particularly important place in the global holdings of commercial seaweed in Russia: there are up to 160 species of seaweed in its waters. They grow on the seafloor - in the zone from the coastline to a depth of 40–60 m. Among these 160 species, 10 have commercial importance. Seaweed communities are tremendously productive: the collected ones recover by 70% in just 2-3 years. The White Sea is the only reservoir in the European north of Russia where industrial collecting of seaweed happens.

The Arkhangelsk Seaweed Factory is the only Russian enterprise for the collecting and complex processing of brown seaweed.

Seaweed for the production of “AB1918” grows in an ecologically clean area of the Solovetsky Archipelago. Directly in that area, there is one of the most extensive seaweed plantations, growing in natural conditions of the water area of the Solovetsky archipelago and belonging to the Arkhangelsk Seaweed Factory.

In the retail assortment of the factory, you can find functional foods to enhance immune system, biologically active food additives and supplements, cosmetics made with the Arctic seaweed, and healthy sweets. The “AB1918” brand is a unique opportunity to maintain good health, beauty and preserve longevity for many years.
